I
was born in W.A in 1940 and left Perth Boys High School
at the tender age of 15.
In
an era soon after the second world war a majority
of young people needed to start work at such an age
in order to be one of the family providers. So in
1956 I started working for one of the big four banks,
literally licking stamps, changing nibs and blotters
and filling ink-wells.
By
the time I was 37 I had progressed through the branches
to become the acting manager of the banks head office
in W.A; had managed several branches, been the States
Planner and had been a rotary (mature age) student
in Japan for three months.
Lending
as a banker was difficult due to Reserve Bank restrictions
and as I had a penchant for lending I saw a niche
in assisting clients in a way I was unable to do as
a bank employee.
I initially commenced a finance broking subsidiary
of a major trustee company and graduated to a partnership
with another prominent broker and eventually in 1986
I started my own business.
From
day one I was successful with the key being to provide
my expertise, built upon by 31 years of banking and
broking experience, to our clients. We were able to
provide funds to our extensive client list from many
sources to which the clients did not have access,
upon rates and conditions which the banks could not
match. Most of those lending institutions still look
to us to assist with their mortgage investments.
The
early 1990's saw us diversify into the residential
owner occupier and investment market with a marked
degree of success. Rather than being a large retail
broker we preferred to become a boutique finance broking
house, paying special attention to the property investor
rather than the first home buyer. We also took on
the management of the mortgage portfolio with direct
access by computers to the customer records. Thus
our clients deal directly with us, rather than a telephone
linkup to somebody in the east.
Our
early portfolio also included matching borrowers with
individual lenders, such as self-funded retirees.
This business was built up over 20 years, but was
destroyed by the finance broking scandal. Whilst we
were only involved as expert witnesses, nevertheless
we were adversely effected as professional indemnity
insurance was withdrawn from the entire market. Without
this cover we cannot operate, as a license condition
is the provision of such cover. We can, however, direct
investors to a colleague who is licensed to deal in
private mortgages.

Vic
joined us in 1998 after some years in charge of the
mortgage lending section of a major trustee company.
Prior to that he worked for a building society and
like all of us spent a considerable number of years
as a trading banker.
Vic's
expertise is in commercial property lending. He enjoys
this role because of the diversity of proposals with
which one is involved each day and the different lending
sources with which he negotiates for his clients.

Steve
commenced here in 1998 (15 years) after a 15 year
career spanning two banks the latter in their specialised
commercial property lending area.
In
the early 1990's he accepted the challenge of expanding
the residential portfolio and the rigours of also
managing the book of mortgages.
He
has built up a team of brokers who direct part of
their business to us and also deals directly with
borrowers.
This
is a highly specialised form of lending with many
differing forms of facilities available for our clients
to choose. Our clients need Steve's assistance to
sort out which facility best suits the clients circumstance.

Colin
has been associated with us as a consulting broker
since 1988. His career has been varied and interesting
and provided him with a wealth of experience to bring
to the world of finance broking.
A
Bachelor of Economics he joined one of the big four
banks as a graduate and proceeded to succeed as a
specialist overseas banker. After experience in London
and Melbourne he returned to Perth to head up the
bank's overseas department.
Further
experience as the State Manager of a confirming house
(3 years) led to his appointment to be the State Manager
of a leading merchant bank.
After
10 years he left to become the Managing Director of
a property development company, which undertook various
large and successful projects.
He
returned to his first love of lending as a consulting
broker, and has used his previous experience effectively
in a wide range of lending and property development
for clients.
In
addition to property he also arranges plant and equipment
finance, margin lending and debtor finance.
